Hollyhocks are timeless flowers that tend to remind me of my grandmother’s garden. Historically among other things, they represent ambition and aspiration because of the tall, steadfast stalk that strives upward. Today though, we’re reminded of their striking beauty whether in a colorful group or standing alone like the specimen you chose as the People’s Choice. PAPA artist Diane Bay rendered “CG’s Hollyhocks” in soft pastels. She allows us to imagine this striking specimen in soft light, perhaps in early morning with dew still on the grass. Diane’s artistic talents are many, including writing as a published author, and her painting media is also wide ranging. You can easily place yourself in the middle of one of her landscapes or sit back to admire the view from afar. These hollyhocks add a bit of cheer and brightness wherever they might be.
Come into the PAPA Gallery when you’re in downtown Paducah. In addition to Diane’s artworks, you’ll find a wide variety of paintings to amaze or challenge or cheer you in our fall exhibit. We hope you’ll drop by to simply enjoy art with us!
