Before you even know the title you feel the raw emotion. You wonder if it’s grief, anger, frustration or something else that’s led to this moment. PAPA artist Rebecca Mueller Williams provided much more than a scream for us to consider in “You Think it a Lie.” This person’s skin and hair are layered and tangled and cracking. The background is streaked and wearing thin in places revealing snippets of sentences and other items struggling to be seen. The only serene spot seems to be the big golden orb that placidly observes.
Rebecca is known for the colorful singular style she brings to all her works. Recognized across the region, she was featured in the inaugural issue of ARTSO Magazine, publication of the Southern Illinois Creative Collective. You can explore this painting and others by Rebecca when you come by the PAPA Gallery in downtown Paducah. Her works are hanging alongside many others by our talented group of painters. Stop in for a visit because we love to simply enjoy art with you!
