Take a few minutes to enjoy “America the Beautiful,” one response to this month’s challenge to paint in the style of Monet. Monet and other impressionist artists used a very open composition with visible brushstrokes and an emphasis on the changing qualities of light. PAPA artist Marley Duncan does a wonderful job capturing this fleeting moment of everyday life somewhere in America. Her vibrant colors help you imagine amber waves of grain under that blue sky filled with puffy clouds and you can see why she named it as she did. The actual location doesn’t matter because you feel like it’s a vista you’ve witnessed before and now have an opportunity to enjoy all over again.
Check out our special challenge exhibit this month where you can relish other paintings by our talented artists in Monet’s impressionistic style. Take a few minutes the next time you’re in downtown Paducah and simply enjoy art with us!
