Do you remember childhood hours spent with a coloring book and crayons? Perhaps you still like to sit quietly with a box of colors and a book and maybe it helps you find a chill zone. Can you imagine what Picasso’s coloring book might have looked like? The challenge for PAPA artists last month was to “Turn a Coloring Book Page Into a Masterpiece” and Judith Nichols imagined a special one! The simple crayon drawing on the left side of this imaginary book gives a hint of what’s to follow. Further on we see a more finished page with the bright colors and geometric shapes of a style we now recognize. In one scene, Judith reminds us that every artist’s journey starts somewhere.
In typical fashion, PAPA painters responded with a myriad of colorful images. They brought pages plucked from old comics, modern mandalas and of course, children’s illustrations. This collection on our Challenge wall has something everyone will recognize! Come by the PAPA Gallery in downtown Paducah this month to spend a little time with our coloring book masterpieces. We simply love to enjoy art with you!
