Meet Carol Harlan, this month’s Featured Artist. She began painting when she was 50, first making use of how to books then studying with local teachers and workshops. She works in acrylics, pastels and watercolor, but is currently focusing on mixed media. Carol enjoys the challenge of getting designs and colors to come together in one piece. She is inspired by objects that speak to her and draw her to paint for the enjoyment of others.

Carol has won several first-place awards in Easter Seals, Mayfield Art Guild and the Murray Art Guild. There is a collection of her children’s portraits on permanent display in the West Kentucky Easter Seals Child Development Center. She loves to paint children and capture unexpected moments, moods, or postures. Carol’s portraits are always done in pastel due to the beautiful way the medium portrays skin and clothing.

Carol lives in Paducah with her husband and their two dogs. She loves to teach classes in Beginning Painting, and Journal Making. Come into PAPA and check out Carol’s portrait and still life paintings this month.
