THE PAPA GALLERY
My journey to become a watercolor artist is very typical for most adults. I always loved visiting galleries and learning about the masters but a full time career and family did not allow time to concentrate on outside interests. Quickly I learned retirement allows you to pursue those long lost dreams!
Watercolor painting is more than placing paints on a piece of paper – its learning “to play” with the colors and the paper! My interest in photography also enables me to be a better painter. Using a camera helps one to learn more about composition, light and shadows. These tools are essential in developing a balanced painting with strong values and bright colors.
Jan Farley lives in southwest Kentucky which provides her with an endless supply of ideas to incorporate in a painting. Jan’s career was in education so she was familiar with the concept of becoming a life-long learner. Dr. Jan Farley is also an adjunct faculty member for Murray State University and teaches courses in the Education Leadership Department as well as classes in photography and watercolors!
Ms. Farley is a member of the Hopkinsville Art Guild along with the Paducah Area Painters Alliance. Jan was awarded the Artist of the Year by the Princeton Art Guild in 2015. She is a member of the Watercolor Art Guild of Trigg, Lyon and Caldwell Counties and Southern Watercolor Society.
