Paula has the following to say about her philosophy of art and her journey as an artist: My belief is that all children are artists. Some give it up as they grow up. Some don’t. I didn’t. Drawing and creating have always been a part of my everyday life.

I don’t believe that art has to be a certain thing or should be something reflective of a certain culture. Therefore, my art is an expression of what I want to see in my world. I prefer to depict people and animals and their environments, but in my personal way. My way is to throw in a little whimsy and fantasy to a painting, which creates a feeling of light-heartedness and beauty, normally not present.

I also enjoy branching off into abstraction, with thoughts only of color, line, and shape. It is freeing to spend time outside of everything in the real world.

Creating is a most enjoyable and enlightening experience for me. I would like people to feel the same way when they view my art.

As a graduate of the University of Kentucky with degrees in Art and Art Education, I have exhibited with the Kentucky Crafted Market and other fairs around Kentucky. During this time I taught elementary art in Midway and Versailles, KY.

For the past ten years, I have lived in Springfield, Illinois where I was president of the Sangamon Watercolor Society, for four years. As a member I painted exclusively in watercolor. I developed a collage style which consisted of watercolor painted papers cut into shapes and fitted into paintings.

I also participated in the society by exhibiting at the Hoogland Center for the Arts, in Springfield, and at other venues. Now, living in Mayfield, KY, I enjoy participating again with Kentucky artists!
