In 2022, I wanted to try something different, and I saw an ad for online painting classes, so I signed up. I was surprised to discover I enjoyed the learning process, and I liked the look of my paintings. So, I kept painting and then the paintings started to stack up. That is when I started looking for a way to display and possibly sell.

My favorite time to paint is after the house quiets and nothing else is demanding my time. I used acrylic for most of my projects, but the class used oil and I love the way it paints. I then tried watercolor and it is a challenge, but it does allow a faster start to finished product.

I am often asked if I am from Paducah, the easy answer would be yes because I have lived in Paducah for over 40 years. Both sets of grandparents are from Paducah. However, in my first 16 years we lived in other areas of Kentucky. Our last move was to western KY. Two years later I married and was blessed to live in Germany for 1 ½ years, Las Vegas and then Lexington, Ky for 4 years, then back to Paducah. I think seeing more than one community allows me to understand the differences found in others, becoming more accepting.

Prior to taking the painting class my introduction to art started as a High School freshman. I took an Art History class, we studied European Cathedrals, the works of the ‘Masters’ and multi styles of art. My first practical art class was in a school that did not have an art department or dedicated room and the only thing I remember is the still life we painted. It was not very good! The next 60ish years I think I tried every craft known to Women: Crochet, cake decorating, sewing, painting crafts. Some I continued and some I dropped. After a project was completed, I have never been afraid to try anything that interested me. My other great love is making bobbin lace.
