Spotting a colorful hot air balloon floating soundlessly through the sky is always a bit of a thrill. We may understand the basics of flight in this day and age, but a balloon still somehow fills us with a sense of adventure that boarding a crowded airline flight just does not. The challenge for PAPA artists this month was to paint a hot air balloon. Judith Webb delights with an example that feels nostalgically exotic with her painting, “Flying High.” Rather than use the bright colors often spotted in the sky, Judith’s pallet is muted and highlighted with a bit of sunlight. The result feels like an orb from another age or perhaps even an ornament waiting to be hung on a Christmas tree.
This is not the only airborne balloon on our special challenge wall though, and we invite you to come see them all. With color, drama and quirkiness, this exhibit has something for everyone. Drop by the PAPA Gallery next time you’re downtown Paducah. We’ll help you find just the right painting so you can give the gift of art. Maybe we can even help you take a few refreshing minutes out of your busy day to simply enjoy art with us!
