Painting is one of many creative endeavors Charles David Alexander enjoys. He is a realist painter in western Kentucky who’s also lived in Seattle WA, Fort Worth TX, and Charlotte NC. Prior to his painting career, Charles was a successful musician and pilot before retiring as a police detective. As a musician, he performed as a side man for several Grand Ole Opry stars in the 1970s and won Winfield’s National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in 1992. He was a clinician for Taylor Guitars, Rane Corporation and D’Addario Strings and his extensive flying resume included everything from crop duster to airline pilot.

After retiring, Charles sat down to paint with his mother who painted for most of her life. He’s principally self taught but has studied at Fairbanks Studio and continually shares and learns with his peers. His work demonstrates a keen attention to detail and frequently exposes his sense of humor in whimsical depictions. He particularly enjoys painting portraits and still life and will accept commissions.

Charles’ art work has been displayed in national juried exhibitions including the National Small Oil Painting Exhibition, Wichita KS, artEAST Gallery in Issaquah WA, the Gibson County Visual Arts Association, the Pennyroyal Art Exhibition and the Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild Impressions Exhibition.

His paintings are in many private residences throughout the U.S. and current works can usually be seen at The PAPA Gallery in Paducah, KY. His memberships include the Paducah Area Painters Alliance, Oil Painters of America and the Portrait Society of America.
