It all started when a small group of local Paducah artists realized a common need. They wanted to learn more about fine art and painting. With varying degrees of skill and knowledge they began meeting together to share and learn. Soon it was evident they needed some structure to their group and the Paducah Area Painters Alliance was born.

From it’s founding in 1991, PAPA’s membership has grown many fold and now has a place of its own to meet, work and exhibit. We continue to share knowledge and support those who wish to learn more about visual arts and painting.

Our Goal:

PAPA strives to trigger an internal imagination by providing enrichment, challenge and artistic opportunities for all people of the region. All shows, programs, activities and services are provided equally without regard to ethnic background, income. gender, age, or disability. Recognizing that education is our greatest resource, PAPA places special focus on providing a learning environment and encouraging the exchange of acquired knowledge. All shows sponsored by the Paducah Area Painter's Alliance are free to the general public.

What we offer:

The PAPA GalleryShow your work: One of the perks for members is being able to exhibit their paintings in the PAPA Gallery. More info...

Library: PAPA maintains an extensive library for use by all the membership. There are books and videos covering a variety of subjects: art history on the masters and contemporary artists, instructions in technique and composition, painting in all mediums and much more. Most of the library has come about through the generous contributions of PAPA members. It’s there for all to benefit.

Challenge Paintings: A unique activity of PAPA is the monthly challenge painting. A theme or subject has been preselected for each month of the year and when members are unable to think of what to paint, they just paint the challenge subject. Paintings are brought to the monthly meeting and shared with the group. As each painting is presented the artist is given an opportunity to tell about his creation. It’s fun and interesting to see all the variations on the theme.

Paducah Area Painters AllianceMonthly Meetings: PAPA members meet on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:00 PM at the PAPA Gallery, 124 Broadway, in downtown Paducah. After a brief business meeting, the month’s challenge paintings are shared and then an educational program is presented. Fellowship and refreshments wind up the evening. Visitors are welcome.

The monthly PAPA meetings also include programs in the form of a lecture or demonstration covering a variety of subjects: painting techniques, color harmony, composition, framing, art history, to name a few. Either a PAPA member with advanced talent or a professional from outside the member-ship is scheduled to present the program.

The PAPA meetings are accessible to individuals with disabilities. All activities are provided without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex or disability.

Workshops: PAPA offers a variety of workshops. See schedule for more information.

Who can become a member:

The only requirement for regular membership is being a practicing artist, from beginner to advanced, everyone is welcome. The more advanced assist those with less experience and everyone benefits. PAPA membership dues are held to a minimum so as not to be a hardship or deterrent.
