Dwain's Thoughts
All the month of November we are reminded to “Give Thanks”. What exactly does that mean? I think I know, but again, who knows

if I know what I think I know? At any rate, with your permission, I’m going to make a stab at thinking it through.
Webster says as a verb “give thanks” is: “to express gratitude or show appreciation to; also acknowledge, recognize or express obligation”. 11/11/11 was Veterans Day in the United States and all of the above definition must apply to all veterans everywhere. We as a free people must give thanks to those brave souls who have made sure we are free. Thanks must be given for our choice to attend the worship service of our choosing, or the freedom not to choose. Little children get a special thanks as do our senior members of society that help make us what we are today.
Perhaps thanks for the mentor in our lives that gave help and encouragement at the very time we needed it, and at the time in our lives we would pay attention to their guidance. Giving thanks for the little things in life that mean so much is not unheard of, but then we do seem to forget to do that very thing much of the time. It’s like bigger things take over.
Above all let’s give thanks for a Higher Power and for random act of kindness. We all could try it!
Do good work

People’s Choice Winner
Thank you for voting for your favorite PAPA painting! The winner of the People’s Choice Award for our winter show is Lynette Brown’s large canvas entitled Dancer. This striking piece features her grandson, who recently won the NALA national competition for dance in Birmingham, Alabama.
After 30 years of college, working, and raising four children, Lynette began pursuing her dream of being an artist in the year 2000. Now her art sells through PAPA, and she attends various classes and art workshops. She and her husband live in an historic home in southwestern McCracken County.
